GEAR // REC P–51 Automatic Watch
REC make watches from wrecked cars.
Danish watchmaker REC is the brainchild of childhood mates Jonathan and Christian from Copenhagen and was only launched in 2014 following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign.
"Every single REC timepiece is therefore made by salvaging classic objects, and transforming them into watch components! We call our concept “RECOVER, RECYCLE, RECLAIM” (hence the name 'REC'). The result? EVERY single REC watch is visually unique (no two are identical), comes with subtle design references taken directly from the object, include handmade components, and is born with the story from the object of which it was made!"
We love a bit of watch porn here, but REC's P–51 Automatic watch made from trashed Mustangs really struck another chord with us. With a 26 jewel Miyota 9130 movement REC aren't messing about, but that's only the start of it. Made using reclaimed Mustangs from the 60s each watch is totally unique, even retaining the original patina of the metal. In addition there are loads of little design nods to the MK1 throughout the watch (check the vid above).
The attention to detail on these watches is so tight I'm going to HAVE to make sure one finds it's way into my collection.
